Curriculum

The curriculum for the ProCom BA has recently been updated. The curriculum that applies to you depends on the year you were admitted into the program.

The ProCom BA curriculum for students admitted into the program in 2017 is available below.

Curriculum for students admitted prior to 2017

Year 1

First Year focuses on introducing you to central concepts and genres. You must complete the following courses:

CMN200 The Craft of Professional Writing
CMN210 Text, Image, and Sound

Professionally-Related: One course from Table II

Open Electives: Two courses from the Open Elective Table

Liberal Studies: One course from Table A - Lower Level Liberal Studies

An Explanation of Course Categories:

Professional: These core elective courses, from within ProCom, provide students with greater focus in specific genres and streams.

Professionally-related: These core elective courses, from outside (non-ProCom) programs, provide students with an introduction to potential streams within ProCom and to potential Minors.

Open electives: These elective courses, from other programs or from ProCom, provide more opportunity for stream focus and Minors, if desired.

Liberal Studies: These courses from programs outside of ProCom provide the option for stream focus and Minors, if desired.

Year 2

Second year focuses on developing more integration of theory and practice and developing key competencies. You must select and complete the following courses:

  • CMN314 Professional Presentations
  • CMN448 Introduction to Visual Communication

Professional: Two courses from Table I

Year 3

Year Three once again integrates theory and practice but also includes more actual application. You must select and complete the following courses:

Year 4

Year Four provides a capstone experience for students. You must select and complete the following courses:
