Carolyn Meyer, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the School of Professional Communication, a Member of the School of Graduate Studies and former Associate Chair and Undergraduate Program Director. Since joining the faculty at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) in 2005, following limited term appointments at Mount Allison University and the University of Toronto, she has designed and taught undergraduate courses in professional writing, communication history, and business, technical, and organizational communication, as well as graduate courses in grant writing and fundraising (MPC) and risk communication (MHSc in Nutrition Communication).

Dr. Meyer is the recipient of an excellence in teaching award from the University of Toronto and is the author of Communicating for Results (2020, Oxford University Press), now in its fifth edition and adopted by more than 20 universities across Canada. She is a former, two-term Vice President of the Association for Business Communication, an international organization committed to advancing business communication research, education, and practice.

Dr. Meyer is a recipient of a SSHRC Post-Doctoral Fellowship for research on the role of the writers' workshop in Belfast during the Troubles and a SSHRC TMU Internal Grant for research into the impact of new media on language change. Her research interests include public apology, open letters and the impact of new media on language change.

Research Interest

Dr. Meyer is a recipient of a SSHRC Post-Doctoral Fellowship for research on the role of the writers' workshop in Belfast during the Troubles and a SSHRC TMU Internal Grant for research into the impact of new media on language change. Her research interests include genre studies, especially as related to public apology and corporate open letters, organizational image repair and crisis management, leadership communication, the discourse of business failure, climate change communication, and the impact of new media on language change.
