Last Monday, two of ProCom's very own research professors, Dr. Carolyn Kane and Dr. Marty Fink, held a research mashup for faculty and students. Dr. Carolyn Kane presented her paper titled "Art Deco's Communication Environment", in which she discussed how Art Deco extended diverse and creative practices into art, fashion, graphic design, theatre, dance and architecture and yet, their interdisciplinary roots and rich progeny have been overlooked.
Dr. Marty Fink discussed media representation of the HIV/AIDS crisis, presenting her paper titled "So I'll Jump! Joseph Beam, Prisoner Penpals, and Media Legacies of HIV/AIDS". The idea that archival letters could now preserve an antiquated form of print culture, thus inspiring new digital possibilities to bring conversations of HIV/AIDS into the present was discussed.
The event facilitated a lively discussion bewteen faculty and students. We look forward to hosting more research mashups in the future!
